Wearing seat belt is strict traffic rule applicable in almost every countries of the world, since they are designed to reduce injuries of the driver and passengers in a car in the events of accident.
Seat belt help keep the occupants in their seats and present them from hitting other surface in the car or being ejected from the vehicle.
It is estimated that most injuries to drivers and passengers are caused by contacts with their steering wheels, dash boards, wind screens, side guides and the roofs of their vehicles.
According to the America Roadway Authority (ARA), 63 percent of people killed in road accident worldwide are not wearing seat belts, let us not forget that wearing a seat belt is still the single most effective thing that we can do to save lives and reduce injuries in accidents.
Drivers on our roads most especially the commercial drivers find seat as their foes and only wear them upon reaching police check points.
This behavior must be as a result of illiteracy or semi-literacy on the part of such drivers. it is on this regard that the Authorities of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit must be up and doing to help check on the act to reduce accidents.
