WRONG USE OF WARNING TRIANGLE

Most of our drivers who drive on our highways do not know how to exposition their warning triangles when their vehicles get glitches in the middle of the road.

It is estimated that, the view distance of a warning triangle can be beyond 400 meters at day time and 500 meters at night. But most of our drivers fail to observe such directives; rather they place them on or some few meters from their vehicles.

This has resulted in number of accident, since the distance from the warning triangles to the broken down vehicles are so close that, the incoming drivers had no option than to collide with them. This behavior I think is as a result of illiteracy or semi-literate on the part of our drivers.

I therefore appeal to the authorities of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to start checking the distance between vehicles and warning triangles on our highways to help reduce road accident in the country. Francis Yanchira.

SEAT BELT FRIENDS OR FOE?

Wearing seat belt is strict traffic rule applicable in almost every countries of the world, since they are designed to reduce injuries of the driver and passengers in a car in the events of accident.
Seat belt help keep the occupants in their seats and present them from hitting other surface in the car or being ejected from the vehicle.
It is estimated that most injuries to drivers and passengers are caused by contacts with their steering wheels, dash boards, wind screens, side guides and the roofs of their vehicles.
According to the America Roadway Authority (ARA), 63 percent of people killed in road accident worldwide are not wearing seat belts, let us not forget that wearing a seat belt is still the single most effective thing that we can do to save lives and reduce injuries in accidents.
Drivers on our roads most especially the commercial drivers find seat as their foes and only wear them upon reaching police check points.
This behavior must be as a result of illiteracy or semi-literacy on the part of such drivers. it is on this regard that the Authorities of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit must be up and doing to help check on the act to reduce accidents.

This has led to speeding, resulting to number of accidents and claiming innocent lives on our high ways. I therefore appeals to the authorities of Motor Traffic and Transport Unite to emback on the massive check on white elephant speedometers to help reduce accidents on our roads.
